Dental tourism in Albania, which is part of tourism in general and medical tourism in particular, has been booming in recent years. According to research by Albanian doctors, dental tourism accounts for about 4% of the total workload of dental clinics in the Balkan country. To stimulate dental tourism, dentists themselves are designing tourist packages for patients from abroad, luring them with low prices for their services and the beauty of Albania.
Previously, this service was developed in Croatia, but after prices there increased, patients began to flock to Albania. According to Albanian dentists, the countries that Albania borders are characterized by low prices for dental services, but in Albania these services are still cheaper. In particular, dental clinics in Shkoder are major competitors of dental clinics in Ulcinj.
The prices in dental clinics in Albania are about 4-5 times lower than in other developed Western countries. For example, in Italy you will have to pay 250 euros for a dental filling, in Greece specialists will charge 180 euros for this service, in the UK it will cost 300 pounds, and in the US — 400 dollars. In Albania, a tooth filling costs an average of 15-35 euros.
Referring to the prices that attract tourists to dental clinics, experts note that there is no legal regulation of dental tourism in Albania. Therefore, some clinics work with the same price list, while others use a second price list for tourists, increasing prices by up to 50%.
Despite this, the benefits of dental clinics in the current period are significant, but there is no official data on dental tourism in the Balkan country yet. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health are planning to develop a specific plan for the development of dental tourism in Albania in order to have a positive impact on the economic development of the country.
