In local shops and stalls you can buy beautiful art objects made of wood, silver and ceramics. Albania also has a large selection of carpets. Many interesting things can be found in old markets.
You can always and everywhere bargain. In markets and bazaars, with a certain skill, you can knock down the price by 20-30%, and even in hotels and taxis you can achieve certain concessions in payment in this way (most often, souvenirs are used «as a token of gratitude for cooperation»).
Prices in Tirana are significantly higher than in other parts of the country. US dollars are the most convenient currency here, even euros are accepted less willingly. It is recommended to have a lot of small bills with you, as prices in the country are low and using large bills will cause many problems with the exchange — each seller will set their own exchange rate, sometimes very different from the bank rate, and the purchase (transaction) process can take a long time. Prices for all goods and services for foreigners are usually noticeably higher than for local residents.
