Lake Skadar

This lake is often called the «Balkan Athos», because in the Middle Ages a large number of hermit monks settled here. Also, Lake Skadar is an «airport for birds», because a variety of bird species fly here for the winter. Herons, flamingos, pelicans and many other birds can be seen on the lake. Lake Skadar can be reached from the city of Shkodra, and the Rozafa Fortress also offers stunning views of the lake.

The second largest and most important is Lake Ohrid, located between Albania and Macedonia.
