The Golem-Shkembi area, the Durres Riviera, is internationally famous for its luxurious sandy beaches and promenades, a lot of restaurants and entertainment. This is a favorite vacation spot for Tyrants and Europeans, where apartments and hotel rooms are booked a year in advance.
Golem is located 6-10 km from Durres.
The water in the sea is clean, it is the only city on the Adriatic where a modern sewage system works. And in any season, the beaches are cleaned by the city authorities.
The Albanian Development Fund has announced a tender for the reconstruction of the tourist area in the coastal village of Golem, which is famous for the beach of the same name. The project involves the receipt of 835.6 million Albanian leks. Proposals from potential contractors regarding participation in the tender can be submitted until November 6, 2020.
The coastal area of Golem is very attractive from a tourism point of view. This place is often visited by local and foreign tourists, especially in the summer. Until the 1990s, the area in question was forested and practically untouched by construction.
However, over the past two decades, the area has been intensively urbanized. Now it continues to be intensively built up. During the urbanization phase, the main focus was on the construction of residential buildings. At the same time, due attention was not paid to the utility networks and, especially, drainage. This led, among other things, to problems with the drainage of surface water in the area, which has already been resolved.
However, the potential for tourism development in the coastal zone remains very high. For this reason, the Albanian Development Fund conducted a feasibility study for the improvement of the infrastructure of the Golem resort area. Illyrian Consulting Engineers sh.pk, as a consultant, signed a corresponding contract with the Fund and implemented it. The survey showed the feasibility of the initiative.
The main objectives of this project will be:
- Stimulating the tourism potential of the region for the purpose of tourism development;
- Improving the quality of life of the population and tourists;
- Expanding opportunities for sustainable economic development of the tourist area;
- Increasing the safety of traffic of vehicles and people in the tourist area; as well as facilitating the movement of vehicles from the tourist area in the direction of the following cities: Kavaja, Durres and Tirana.
In order to achieve the above objectives, according to the technical specifications, the consultant proposes to renew / add about 26 kilometers of roads, canals or promenades. An underground passage / overpass is also envisaged, which will connect secondary roads with each other. In areas with high construction intensity, space is planned for parking lots, parks, squares, etc.
