Briefly about Golem.
Golem in Albania is a small resort village on the Adriatic coast, located 15 km south of Durres. It is perfect for a beach holiday: not as noisy as Durres, but with the same spacious sandy beach, with many beach hotels and apartments, as well as restaurants with excellent home cooking. There is an excellent climate, a clean warm sea with a gentle entrance and wonderful air: Golem Bay is surrounded by mountains and pine groves. There is not much entertainment — but Durres, the second largest city in Albania, is nearby, and the capital of Albania, Tirana, is only 50 km from here.
The calling card of the city of Golem.
The village of Golem itself is small — about seven thousand people live in it. But its coastal part has grown to unprecedented sizes in recent years — after all, this is the closest resort town to Durres. Not only foreigners who fell in love with Golem because of its beach, developed infrastructure and proximity to the airport, but also Albanians themselves, primarily residents of Durres and Tirana, like to relax here.
Golem Beaches.
Golem Beach is a continuation of the beaches of Durres: the same wide sandy strip, stretching for several kilometers, with neat rows of sun loungers and umbrellas (paid). As in Durres, there is a gentle entrance to the sea and warm, well-heated by the sun water, which during the waves can be muddy due to the sandy bottom. But, unlike Durres, the coast of Golem is framed by fragrant pine trees, in the shade of which local hotels, villas and restaurants are hidden. It should be noted that Golem Beach in Albania is considered exemplary: the National Agency for Coastal Development uses it as a model for all other beaches in the country in terms of quality, safety and infrastructure.
Entertainment and active recreation in Golem.
The main entertainment in Golem is beach recreation and water attractions: banana boat rides, catamarans, boat trips, etc. Attractions designed for children can also be found on the embankment, located behind the first line of hotels. In the evenings, live music is often played here.
Another popular leisure option for tourists is a trip to the city of Durres, where you can see the ruins of an ancient amphitheater, a Venetian fortress, a collection of the Archaeological Museum and other attractions. In addition, Durres is worth going out for shopping: there are several shopping centers, as well as a huge central market where they sell freshly caught fish, seafood, and delicious local fruits. You can get to Durres and back by bus, taxi, or as part of an organized excursion.
Local cuisine and wines.
Golem will please all lovers of seafood: here you can taste different types of fish and seafood, cooked in all possible ways. Meat dishes, traditional for Albanian cuisine, as well as pizza, pasta and risotto, borrowed from the Italians, are also very common. There are many, many establishments in Golem — you can choose a new place every day, whether it is an expensive restaurant where you can come in a beautiful dress (for example, an exquisite restaurant in the Flower Hotel), a fish restaurant by the beach, a cafe on the embankment, a pizzeria closest to the hotel or a small snack bar with excellent Albanian pastries.
How to get to Golem.
The Golem resort in Albania is located just 50 km from Tirana International Airport. From the airport you can get here by bus — first to Durres, and then change to a local bus or minibus, which depart every 20 minutes. In addition, the resort is easily accessible by taxi, transfer or rented car (SH2 highway).
